Player Character VFX Support/Punch ups

While I’ve been on this project various characters have been getting overhauled with their ability kits. Some of them, like Viren, I’ve been able to concept out various ideas for the abilities. While for some others like Claudia’s Dragon Breath has been a request to just pump up the existing ability vfx.

Even if they aren’t implemented, concepting and brainstorming these various ideas are great! I have a lot of fun solving visual problems, collaborating with, and helping out other teams.

Operator Pose Support

These operator poses were some of the most fun things that I was responsible for. They are keys for narrative and story beats to convey information, introduce characters, and give us an opportunity to have more storytelling beats into the game.

The team was very pleased with how these have turned out in engine, unfortunately I cannot get any videos of these at the time. Mervyn, the researcher, turned out incredibly well with his nerdy, over the top shenanigans.

The World

One of the fun challenges was to create a new area not found in the show. I helped unify and punch up some preexisting vis dev shots (SR1, middle images) while bringing some narrative and visual clarity to the area.

At the bottom are some vista shots that have their own unique camera angles. I helped direct and compose these shots to hand over to our artists.

Boss Support

I was occasionally asked to help out with boss animations and vfx. Either help punch up vfx or just give a general idea on how to tackle the problem knowing that the animation and vfx team have got it the rest of the way!

Margot Exploration

These were a bunch of brainstorm and visdev ideas that were ultimately not used but I’m glad that I helped figure out what direction to head in.

Enemy Support

There are enemy vfx concepts and punch ups that I’ve done. As well as helping out combat with ideating enemy moves.

Skin Ability VFX Support

Our Legendary skins get custom vfx. Every once in a while I get to do these ability vfx suites and its very fun.

One of my favorite things from this job was able to mentor 3 people that didn’t know how to do vfx concepts and turning them into artists that we can rely on for vfx concepts!
